AHS “Take A Minute” Calm Environment Project!

AHS “Take A Minute” Calm Environment Project!
Hello! My name is Ms. Tracye Schwartz.
I am a Learning Consultant at Adams High School. I am seeking your help to raise enough funds to create a “Take A Minute” Calm Environment Space that is more inviting and serene to accommodate and comfort to students with special needs, 504 and/or IEP, anxiety disorders, or any student struggling with social emotional health while taking assessments or working on projects outside of the classroom.
This is my proposal’s compelling why…
Often times, students with special needs, be it a 504 accommodation plan, an Individualized Education Plan (IEP), Generalized Anxiety Disorder, or any child struggling with his/her social and emotional health seemingly feel more comfortable taking assessments or working on assignments and projects outside of the classroom in a non-traditional, quiet and calm setting.
It is our desire at Adams High School (AHS) to create an environment of tranquillity and quiet to accommodate and comfort this unique population of students.
With the use of alternative seating, study carrels, privacy screens, and an area rug to control noise, we feel these students will be able to cope better with their test anxiety and consequently, improve their assessment performances.
Moreover, students can access the space to receive extra classroom supports, particularly in math and language arts.
♥ This is where you can help! ♥
Help us reach our goal!
Currently, we do not have appropriate furniture to accommodate the amount of students who are accessing the room.
With your support, the following items and furniture will be purchased to create the “Take A Minute” space and provide students with the opportunity to self-regulate, refocus, and reduce stress, anger, and/or anxiety and be fully engaged in the learning process.
Thank you for your consideration!
Any donation is appreciated!

Link Crew Virtual Curriculum at AHS!
Hello! My name is Mr. Edward Boguslawski.
I am one of the Link Crew Coordinators at Adams High School (AHS). The AHS Link Crew Coordinators are seeking your help to raise enough funds to attend the advanced training and further implement the Link Crew Freshman Mentoring program.
This is my proposal’s compelling why…
Link Crew is a nationwide program that aims to set up each freshman with upperclassmen to help him/her smoothly transition into high school.
Link Crew is firmly embedded as our freshman mentoring program at AHS. We fully intend to have this program continuing every year with each incoming freshman class. As time progresses, every single student that attends AHS will have participated in the Link Crew program as a freshman and then some of them again as upperclassmen Link Leaders.

I believe in helping the development of our communities especially those individuals who may need some extra help to reach their full potential. I recognize software tools such as BrainPOP may provide opportunities during these challenging times with the COVID distancing and virtual learning requirements. HOWEVER, I would like to share my opinion that I believe individuals with autism are best developed through programs with outdoor activities, focusing on nature and a very high level of interpersonal skill development. When circumstances permit, I encourage you and others doing this work to move away from digital media and move towards live programs and tangible media. Keep up your good intentions!

RCS COVID-19: Supporting all RCS students to academic success!

RCS COVID-19: Supporting all RCS students to academic success!
♥ Hope comes from a community of caring!♥
♥Partnerships are critical for success. ♥
Dear RCS community,
The Rochester Community School District is part of a treasured community, where partnerships between families, schools, and businesses are integral for student success.
With the constant changes in our world, especially in our current environment, children feel most supported when their family at home and their school family are working together. The RCS Foundation works with the district to support the whole child—academically, socially, and emotionally.
♥ United during and after the pandemic ♥
As we plan for the new school year and what it will look like, together we can ensure all children have access to the same resources.
♥ This is where you can help! ♥
Help us reach our goal and support every student!
Your support with funding resources to equip this new way of learning and living will prepare students to be resilient, and help them achieve social and emotional wellness through vigilance, learning and community care.
Please join us in our efforts to help keep student learning equitable and ensure all students are properly equipped, prepared and confident to return to school.
♥ Any donation is appreciated! ♥
Your contribution will make an impact, whether you donate $5 or $500. Every little bit helps! Thank you for your consideration!
This is Where Your Donation Will Go:
- Chromebook cases (Minimum of $350,000)
- RCS continues to invest in technology to enhance student learning.
- RCS will be providing 1:1 device (every student, returning in-person and virtually, will receive one computer Chromebook device).
- Over 15,000 Chromebook cases will be needed to provide each student with one to protect the device from any damages.
- Chromebook cases bought in bulk average $19.99/case. Generally they cost anywhere from $17-$35.
RCS will follow the requirements in the MI Safe Schools Roadmap. As we mitigate risk of COVID-19 spread, the RCS Foundation is seeking support in efforts to help RCS focus on:
- Personal Protective Equipment
- Hygiene and
- Spacing and movement
Personal Protective Equipment
In phase 4, facial coverings are required for: all staff; pre-K-12 students in hallways and common areas; students in grades 6-12 in classrooms; k-5 students in classroom unless they remain with cohort throughout the day with no close contact with other classes; and all people on buses.
- Washable cloth face masks (minimum $60,000)
- RCS will supply disposable masks.
- Goal: Providing three (3) washable cloth face masks for each student upon re-entry.
- Bulk purchase – Box of 50 averages $170
Hygiene
In phase 4, schools will be required: to provide supplies including soap, hand sanitizer with at least 60% alcohol, paper towels, tissues and informational signs.
With 13 elementary schools, 4 middle schools, 3 high schools and an alternative high school, supplies will consistently be depleting. With your support, we can make sure we are never in a position where we need to wait for funding to be released to purchase more supplies.
- Supplies to protect all students and staff within the buildings (i.e. disposable masks, soap, hand sanitizer, paper towels, tissues wipes): $150,000
- The safety of our students, staff and community are always our priority.
When the pandemic is over, we have to consider the mental health impacts of re-entry. Social-emotional wellness of students and staff are essential!
Training session and webinars would be presented in a partnership with the Center for Trauma Resilient Communities.
- Our long-term vision is to have a clinician in every school so all children can get the social-emotional support that is needed.
- 3rd party payment processing fee
- Fulfillment labor & materials
Total Projected Goal $500,000

Elementary Field Trips Fund
Dear Elementary School Families,
Thanks to your suggestions, the Rochester Community School District has restructured the K–5 field trips to include more hands-on, real-world learning opportunities that expand beyond the city of Rochester.
Our goal in offering field trips is to ensure they are: aligned with the curriculum, consistent across the district, provide little or no cost to families, and sustainable within the curriculum department’s budget.
Despite our partnerships with the local community organizations and the efficiencies of transporting students at a reduced rate through Durham, field trips still remain costly.
This is where you can help!
RCS has partnered with the RCS Foundation to conduct the “Annual Field Trips Donor Campaign.” Your tax-deductible contribution will be used to offset the cost of district-sponsored field trips and help continue the tradition of educational enrichment in Rochester Community Schools.
Any donation is appreciated.

Reuther Middle School: Tapping the Power of Nonfiction Books!
Hello! My name is Ms. Deanna Knox.
I am an ELA Teacher at Reuther Middle School. I am seeking your help to raise enough funds to purchase enough nonfiction books to fully operate the newly approved book clubs!
With book clubs (anywhere from two to four students), students need to be reading the same nonfiction text, so multiple copies of titles are imperative to the success of the unit.
This is my proposal’s compelling why…
Nonfiction reading skills impact nearly every academic subject area, so implementing this unit fully, as intended, will have a tremendous benefit.
Students will gain background knowledge in multiple subjects while also gaining confidence and skill in how to tackle unfamiliar expository text!
♥ This is where you can help! ♥
Help us reach our goal!
The school’s media center budget is unable to currently support the purchase of the number of nonfiction books required to fully operate book clubs for “The Power of Nonfiction” unit in ELA6 classrooms.
With your support, multiple copies of nonfiction titles from high-interest topics (many titles suggested by the Lucy Calkins’ Unit of Study “Tapping the Power of Nonfiction”) will be purchased and immediately help all current and incoming 6th graders.

December 13, 2019I appreciate your intention to support mindfulness in the academic setting. Would love to see this at the other schools (Hart Middle School specifically, as my daughter will be attending there)
Hello! My name is Ms. Melina Chynoweth.
I am a Learning Consultant at Reuther Middle School. I am seeking your help to raise enough funds to create a Mindfulness Space within the supervised study skills classroom.
This is my proposal’s compelling why…
Research shows that stress causes our brain’s ability to think logically to go “offline” because our bodies treat stress like a threat. Unfortunately there is a tremendous increase in stress, depression, and anxiety in today’s youth.
In Reuther’s supervised study skills classes, 33% of scheduled in students have been observed as falling into that category. In school, different learning environments may or may not work well for students and they may feel an increased level of stress working on group projects or on teams. Therefore, providing a space to our students where they can receive mindfulness-based interventions is important.
This space will provide students the opportunity to destress and practice mindfulness as they continue to learn. We need to help our students take a step back and teach their brains to focus on one task at a time so they are able to move forward and reach their maximum potential.
A separate mindfulness space within the supervised study skills classroom will benefit students who are not achieving at the same level as their peers due to the need for the tools, space and time to self regulate and refocus.
♥ This is where you can help! ♥
Help us reach our goal!
With your support, the following items and furniture will be purchased to create the mindfulness space and provide students with the opportunity to self-regulate, refocus, and reduce stress, anger, and/or anxiety and be fully engaged in the learning process.
Thank you for your consideration!

SCHS “Farm to Table Garden” Project!
Hello! My name is Ms. Elizabeth Tocco.
I am the Information Literacy Specialist at Stoney Creek High School. I am seeking your help to raise enough funds to build a school garden with the intent of various cross curricular experiences.
This is my proposal’s compelling why…
This is the first time a school garden with the intent of various cross curricular experiences and multiple groups of stakeholders will be implemented at SCHS. The Farm to Table Garden is intended to teach students the value of their food and have as many students possible involved throughout all the stages of farming!
It is our desire at Stoney Creek High School (AHS) to pilot a student community garden that will allow a variety of classes to plant, maintain, and harvest with the goal of creating a’ farm to table’ experience.
With the help of our SCHS Health, Foods and Nutrition, and Cuisines of the World team members will build and maintain the garden outside the classroom (blueprint above).

My oldest child is a kindergartener at Hampton but I have been a special ed teacher for 19 years in another district. For many years I taught adult SXI (18-26 yr olds) in a school with very low parent support and participation. I know how hard it can be to want to provide worthwhile opportunities for my students but not have the means to do so unless it was coming out of my own pocket. Adaptive art is so worthwhile. Good luck in your pursuits!

October 25, 2019Hello! My name is Ms. Kristi McAllister!
Here is a little more about me…
I am a teacher for the Adult Transition Program and Services (ATPS) at the Dr. John M. Schultz Educational Campus.
I love my students because…
Even though I am the teacher, they have already taught me so much. While on the exterior it may not seem that they have opinions and wants, they most certainly do. I have taken the time to pay very close attention to their movements, eye gazes, facial expressions and body language to understand them and see them for who they are. They each are unique and have beautiful personalities! They are truly a gift.
More about my project…
RCS adult transition program and services (ATPS) students with multiple impairments (SXI) would love the opportunity to attend an art class every week at the Paint a Miracle studio located in downtown Rochester (30 classes this school year).
This opportunity will give students a chance to create art that they can showcase and sell if they so choose.
The main principles of the ATPS is for students to develop independence with the community through community relationships. This program offers the opportunity to create art with the support and accommodations that students to be independent and participate fully within our community.
Paint a Miracle is so thrilled to have our students attend their program, that they have offered a grant for half the cost.
♥ This is where you can help! ♥
Help us match the grant!
Your support will foster independence, community connections, and the opportunity to participate in the community. This will enhance the lives of students in a positive way! Thank you for your consideration!
