Dear Elementary School Families,

Thanks to your suggestions, the Rochester Community School District has restructured the K–5 field trips to include more hands-on, real-world learning opportunities that expand beyond the city of Rochester.

Field trips have been an integral part of our elementary school experience for many years. They provide students with enriching opportunities that are difficult to duplicate in the classroom. Our goal in offering field trips is to ensure they are: aligned with the curriculum, consistent across the district, provide little or no cost to families, and sustainable within the curriculum department’s budget.

Despite our partnerships with the local community organizations and the efficiencies of transporting students at a reduced rate through Durham, field trips still remain costly.

This is where you can help!

RCS has partnered with the RCS Foundation to conduct the “Annual Field Trips Donor Campaign.” Your tax-deductible contribution will be used to offset the cost of district-sponsored field trips and help continue the tradition of educational enrichment in Rochester Community Schools.

These additional excursions will complement our existing field trips.

  • Kindergarten – Community Store Tour
  • First Grade – Farm Experience
  • Second Grade – Theater Experience
  • Third Grade – DNR Outdoor Research Center
  • Fourth Grade – Dutton Farm
  • Fifth Grade – Lansing Capitol Tour
